Since 2010: Integrated researcher at Institute for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (IBB), Centre of Biological Engineering (CEB), Laboratory of Environmental Biotechnology (LBA) of University of Minho.

Since 2010: Research collaborator at Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIMAR), Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) of University of Algarve.

2006 – 2009: Research fellow at the Environmental Quality Group, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of FCT - UNL.

2002 – 2009: Associate researcher at the Institute of Marine Research (IMAR), in the Centre for Ocean and Environment at the Ecological Modelling Group (GEM).

Research projects

Since 2002, worked within multidisciplinary teams in the context of International research projects:

2004 - 2008: SPEAR - Sustainable options for PEople, catchment and Aquatic Resources, EU Framework VI, INCO-DEV-1 - CT-2004-510706, IMAR. Use of project data about Xiangshan Gang and contribution with PhD results.

2002 - 2005: C2C - CatchmentToCoast , EU Framework V, INCO-DEV ICA4-2001-10136. Workpackage 5 - Mangrove ecosystem, habitat health and function, and workpackage 6 - Shrimp ecosystem dynamics, IMAR.

Professional interests

Work on R&D for marine resource based industry such as sustainable aquaculture and renewable energy production.

Contribute to sound decision making for sustainable use of natural resources. In particular work on environmental impact assessment and ecological/economic evaluation of coastal ecosystems.

My major research interest is to explore the integration of the processes occurring in aquatic coastal systems and inner and outer boundaries for water quality and aquatic resources management.
